Episode 7: Timely Weaving (with Jane Patrick)

Time to WeaveFinding time to do the things we love is often a challenge. Join us on an exploration of how to do exactly that: we speak with Jane Patrick, author of TIME TO WEAVE, a book filled with easy and quick weaving projects that can be done in mere hours, not days; listen to a loom's lament, and brainstorm ways to get more weaving done. Other highlights: a tribute to Ralph Griswold, dryer balls, blantant bribes, and pleas for help with the upcoming Halloween episode.

Another great episode - I loved the essay at the end. I for one would be happy to hear you wax lyrical more often - even if you can't always do an interview.

It is a bit quiet here at the moment. I think you have thrown everyone by producing episode 7 so quickly. I only noticed because I came back to have another look at the doubleweave artists link. Have you seen http://www.sarahhartshorn.com/art.htm
she has got some fantastic doubleweave weavings.

I'd love more frequent podcasts, and enjoy hearing you talk about weaving as much as your interviews.

I'd send an audio comment, but I don't know where our supposed microphone lives, and I've never woven, so I guess that won't work. I have this dream of having enough money to take one of the multi-day weaving workshops at Harrisville, and then writing an essay about the learning experience. One of these days, or years, or something. :-)

You've inspired me to get a voice mail line for WeaveCast, so that anyone with a phone can leave a comment--no microphone required.

So, if you've ever the inclination, call 1-206-734-4411 and leave me a message.

You don't have to have years of weaving experience...or even any. A response to something you heard on the show, favorite fiber, dyeing tip, even just a musing about why you want to weave: what intriques you about weaving, any of that would be welcome.

You may not be a weaver in fact, but if you're listening to the show, I'd bet you're a weaver at heart. ;>

And of course, if you do take a class at Harrisville, an essay about the experience would be ultra groovy.

Thanks for the great comment!

Note: This is a Skype voice-mail number, and as such, the sound is pretty darned good. I've bought three months of it for $12. If folks use it, I'll keep it going, otherwise, I'll let it lapse.

With you, I sorrow over the death of Ralph Griswold. I never met him either, but I was privileged to work with him on several projects.

Thank you very much for the link to Complex Weavers and to the interview there with Ralph. As webmistress of the former and author of the latter, I am especially grateful. Thanks!

As always I really enjoyed the show! Particularly glad to hear the pitch for local yarn/weaving shops. As far as content, I enjoy your audio essays as much as the interviews. You have a good speaking voice & radio presence.

I'm not really a weaver yet -- although I did purchase a LeClerc Medico table loom with floor stand almost a year ago (talk about spur-of-the-moment-purchase!) that is well dusted, but unused.... Now I'm planning my winter learning project and a diversion from my IT Business Analyst job for a major high-tech firm and my LongArm Quilting business.
I've been very motivated by your podcasts. I have 2 1-hour commutes each week and I enjoy spending them listening to your show. Perhaps I can contribute in the upcoming months with my 'Adventures of a Beginning Warper and Weaver' or something of that nature. I will probably end up teaching myself as I live 50 miles north of Boise, ID in the Idaho mountains, so, I'm sure there will be some 'oooopps! to share.

I enjoy your observations, opinions, book reviews, product review, interviews, or anything that happens to be interesting to you. We enjoy what you enjoy presenting, and I do understand the expenses you are certianly encountering. Donations will be coming from here as soon as I get my paypal accout reset.

My preference is that you persue those aspects of your podcast that you enjoy and are finacially practical given the support you receive.

You’re most welcome. Ralph was great guy, and it was wonderful to have your interview with him to re-read after his passing. Thank you for making that possible.

And as a member of Complex Weavers, thank you for all your hard work on the Web site.

Congrats on your LeClerc table loom! Learn to weave would be a great winter project (though perhaps I am a teensy bit biased...)

I'd love to hear your stories or questions about learning to weave. Email or Voice mail, either one.

I was recently doing online weaving tech support for a podcasty friend of mine and she suggested a "beginner's corner" or "WeaveCast tech support line." segment for the show.

I'm delighted that you're enjoying the show. It's great to have you on board. And thanks for the wonderful comment. It made my day. :>

Thank you Syne, for shamelessly debasing yourself for us to get that exclusive.

I don't quite know if you remember me but I was the gal with the Babe PVC spinning wheel across from you at Madrona at the Color in Spinning(oh sure I've sat in on your panels at Norwescon but that's another part of life).

Thanks again!

I just read the article in the Nov/Dec. Handwoven about your Weavecast. Yea!!! That should really get you lots of new listeners. Thank you for providing the weaving community with a wonderful new weaving resource.

Hello Syne Another great podcast love hearing all your ideas please podcast more often, the interviews are great too but you are fab by yourself.
I am a spinner and knitter and did try the small heddle loom from ashfords but was disappointed with the results but having listened to a few of your first podcasts decided to have another go. I realised that I was just using the "wrong colours" and you inspired me to try different things .I made a scarf and used lots of my favorite yarns and loved doing it and the finished scarf. my fourteen year son then wanted to weave a mat for his room it is still going and he is being encouraged to hurry up and finish it as I want to use the loom.
I usually listen to your podcasts while walking outside up and down our drive way and the sheep think I am rather mad as I keep laughing out loud, listening to your wonderful sense on humour.
thanks for all the hard work you put in hope you are having fun doing it. I also love the interviews with your son he is a blast.

I love weavecast! I just found out about it in Handwoven and listened to all previous episodes over the last couple of days. I very much like the idea of having additional episodes with you and other weavers talking in addition to the monthly interview episode. Thank you very much for all your work.
